comparing different types of foam with other companies it is most important to
look at the density and ILD of the foam.

The specs below are all open cell foam. The difference
between open cell and closed cell foam are as follows:
Open-cell
foam is soft – like a cushion.
The cell walls, or surfaces of the
bubbles, are broken and air fills all of the spaces in the material.
Closed-cell foam has varying degrees of hardness,
depending its density. It is strong enough to walk on without major distortion.
Most of the cells or bubbles in the foam are tight like a soccer ball or a kids
pool noodle.

Foam density is a specific
measurement of how much weight in pounds Polyurethane foam can handle per cubic
foot. This density rating tells you the strength of the foam. The height is the
number that tells you how much longer the foam will last. It should not be used exclusively as a
sign of durability or comfort; because firmness and lifespan of foam products
like mattresses and cushions, depend on many factors, including density. The
density may very slightly between each foam shipments.

ILD or IFD measurement firmness of how hard or soft a foam is. The
higher number the foam is, the firmer the foam is. Also represents how many
pounds the foam will hold before it collapse. If you take a block of foam 12″ x
12″ x 12″ cube, after the certain
ILD is reach that foam will collapse.

Our polyurethane foam only comes 82″ wide so any bigger size will have to be
glued together.

Linked Foam will not really ‘melt’ because a “thermoset” process takes
place. It’s like asking at what temp a hardboiled egg melts after it is
boiled and cooled to room temperature.
In regard to a softening:Temperature, duration under heat and density will all have an effect on the
foam.

As a guideline you can us the Technical Data Sheet “Thermal Stability” temps

Extended times (more than 3 hours) above 185° F… the foam will definitely
begin to soften and physical properties will deteriorate.
